about

This is a 1995 demo which was also sold at shows. It was given to me by Young Einstein who was already somebody I took notice to at the record swap meets. He seemed to know a lot about obscure drum breaks and would point them out when we found each other side by side digging at record stalls. This demo is a true testament to his genius as a producer and was a huge inspiration to me. In the mid 90s when the magic of sample based production ala De La Soul, Beatnuts, etc was fading into a more synth based replayed era, this tape brought back the magic that I fell in love with. But it doesnt stop there. Andy Cooper and Dizzy Dustin deliver technical story telling rhymes about things both down to earth and cosmic. For years, I wondered how a demo taken so seriously wasnt picked up and released on a major scale. Well that changed when the record label 1500 signed them and they re recorded some of the songs for the Journey To Anywhere album which came out in 2001.
This is a fun listen and part of LA history that doesnt get enough light.
Enjoy!
